Objective of the series:
This series aims to provide a forum in which to develop a richer and more nuanced understanding of how extreme conditions affect scholarly work and the individuals who conduct it. In so doing, this series looks to foster a more empathetic and informed academic community globally.
Overview of session:
In this panel discussion, we will be joined by a panel of Congolese academics to share their personal journeys within academia and reflect on the that their identities and life experiences have on their teaching, research, and engagement. Hosted by, Konan SENY KHAN this discussion will explore the intricate relationship between personal narratives and scholarly pursuits and draw attention to their own understandings of academic engagement and impact within the context of their work. Please join Josaphat MUSAMBA, Clément LONGONDJO and Xavier MATIENI to discuss the challenges they face within the academic community and offer insights into strategies for better support and inclusion. Looking forward, the panel will discuss how academics without a direct relationship to the conflict in Congo can provide solidarity and support, foster cross-cultural understandings, and amplify Congolese voices within academic circles.
