Bullying between children in primary schools: what's friendship got to do with it?

Description

In this seminar I will be talking about the importance of children's friendships with peers for their school experience, and the contribution of reciprocity and friendship quality. I will also be examining the intersection of friendship with bullying, and presenting our research findings showing how children's existing interpersonal connections shape their role in aggression within the peer group. As a result, I will be arguing that nurturing good quality reciprocal friendships between children is a valuable anti-bullying strategy. I will also be sharing some research-informed resources that we have developed to support primary educators in building children's friendship skills, and discussing how we are evaluating these as part of effective relationships education
