Description

Café Scientifique is an open public event where the latest thinking in scientific or healthcare research is shared with anyone who wishes to drop-in, all for the price of a coffee!

The first of these cafés in the UK were held in Leeds in 1998. From there, cafes gradually spread across the country, and they can now be found across the globe. Currently, there are around seventy in the UK of which Northampton Café Scientifique is one.

Set within an informal setting such as a café within Northampton or surrounding Northamptonshire areas, the format of the event is a 45-to-60-minute talk led by noted experts in their field followed by Q&As from the audience, where lively and informative discussions take place, and ideas exchanged.

Organised by members of the University of Northampton’s Centre for Health Sciences and Services, Café Scientifique takes place every month, on Thursday evenings from 5pm – 6.30pm and everyone within the local community (public, students, UON staff, local organisations) can attend free of charge.

Dr Redwood, co-lead of the Centre for Health Sciences and Services, says: “The fundamental aspect of health and science research is to use our findings to help, improve and better understand how we live. Part of this includes making sure members of the public hear about research that can positively impact their wellbeing. With Café Scientifique, we make this a little bit easier by taking our findings out of the University and off research journal pages by coming into town to talk to people directly."
