The Centre for Cultural and Literary Studies (CCLS) hosted the ‘Contemporary Cultural Responses to a Neoliberal World’ Symposium on Thursday 13th June 2024 at The University of Northampton.

This interdisciplinary symposium featured contemporary explorations of neoliberalism as one of the defining conditions of the twentieth century, with speakers from Spain, Canada, the US, and Ireland.

It included critical analyses of neoliberalism as an ideology, practice, and policy, seeking to forge a dialogue between approaches in literature, art, film, and music. The day's panels were structured thematically to encourage enriching interdisciplinary exchanges and discussions.

The Keynote Speaker was Professor Paul Crosthwaite, Professor of Modern and Contemporary Literature at The University of Edinburgh. His lecture was titled: ‘Free Money? Literature, Liberty, and Alternative Currencies.’
