Activity: Academic Talks or PresentationsConference Presentation

Description

This presentation outlines the collective experiences of members of the CAIPE Research Sub Group of IPE provision during the pandemic. It reflects on case studies of the experiences of academics, students and service users relating to the design and delivery of IPE during the pandemic; identifying barriers and enablers to successful shared learning, and providing recommendations for how lessons learned can be taken forward to enhance this important element of pre-registration education.

Main findings
The restrictions of the pandemic impacted IPE across the globe. Where IPE provision is a professional requirement, academics had to quickly adapt their resources and learning and teaching approaches to meet these requirements, primarily using emergency remote teaching. Through reflection, the similarities and differences in approaches were explored to identify models of best practice and to celebrate shared learning as a global community of practice.

Discussion
The pandemic not only forced a whole scale change to the mode of delivery of IPE (from face to face to online), it also presented opportunities for innovation which should not be lost as interprofessional learning and teaching emerges from the pandemic.

Conclusion
Whilst the pandemic created challenges for IPE delivery it also provided opportunities for advancements in design and delivery.

Impact
The CAIPE Research Experience Subgroup has impacted the global field of IPECP, including education, practice involving service user partnership and sharing practitioner experiences, development of subgroup members and IPECP scholars, with the potential policy impact recognised.
The CAIPE Research Experience Subgroup published eight peer-reviewed articles; these are widely cited and disseminated across social media. After the ATBH Conference, four international presentations will have been delivered.
The IPE series has over 50 citations, and the paper published in September 2023 offers potential for increased impact from those reading, using, and citing the publications (Table 1). Citing authors are from 17 countries: England, Republic of Ireland, Scotland, USA, Germany, Canada, South Africa, India, Sweden, Australia, Israel, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, China, Saudi Arabia, and Portugal, and from various professions including nurses, doctors, midwives, operating department practitioners, pharmacists, psychologists, and counsellors. In addition to peer-reviewed articles, citations include an international report, doctoral and master's theses, a book chapter and in non-healthcare fields, e.g., business administration and economics, computing and mathematical science, university education and school education. This demonstrates the value and significant international impact with diverse professions, from different countries, engaging with and citing papers from the series.
