Enhancing cross-curricular Primary ITT teaching in an outdoor context though the use of group blogs

Activity: Academic Talks or PresentationsOral presentationResearch

Description

The presentation will focus on our Primary PGCE students’ use of a media-rich group blog as a means of integrating primary age phase foundation subjects within a ‘learning outside the classroom’ theme. We will consider the theoretical basis and structure of the work, together with students’ reflections on their learning at the start and end of the module. The affordances of blogs, apps and webtools for facilitating asynchronous group work and allowing for embedded, interactive and visual resources will be considered. We will demonstrate how this was supported by subject seminars in art, geography, PE, computing and history, and how the production of the group blog promoted collaboration among a dispersed group of students. Our work intends to stretch the boundary of what 'research in ITT’ is. The impact of the course is being evaluated by pre and post questionnaire and focus group interviews, and we are also using artistic and digital research tools to not only collect data- but also to analyse and present it. We intend to select one case (1 blog) to demonstrate how the data could be analysed visually.
