Description
There is evidence that Out of Home Care (OOHC) settings, especially residential care, can prove criminogenic, through children’s exposure to antisocial peers and criminal behaviour. However, little is known about how trauma, including removal from family, is viewed by lawyers and decision-makers in criminal cases involving children in care. Custodial sentencing, especially, can prove a precursor to ongoing incarceration with the developmental-systemic disruption this brings. This poster describes a qualitative, cross-national study involving interviews with legal, youth justice and judicial stakeholders in England and Wales, and in New South Wales and Victoria (Australia).Period | 13 Sept 2024 → 16 Sept 2024 |
