Experiences and Challenges of the Black Minority Ethnicity NHS Staff: A Preliminary Review

Activity: Academic Talks or PresentationsConference PresentationResearch

Description

This study explores the experiences and challenges faced by Black Minority Ethnicity (BME) staff within the NHS. It highlights persistent issues such as discrimination, limited career progression, underrepresentation in senior roles, and unequal access to leadership opportunities. BME staff often report feeling excluded from decision-making and encountering unconscious bias and structural barriers. Despite diversity policies, gaps remain between policy and practice. Preliminary study shows that these challenges impact staff well-being, job satisfaction, and retention. The study emphasises the need for meaningful systemic change, inclusive leadership development, and policies that translate into equitable workplace experiences for all BME NHS staff.
