From deep underground to high-rise elevation: a ‘vertical journey’ in applied dynamics

Activity: Academic Talks or PresentationsInvited talkResearch

Description

Applied Dynamics is a scientific discipline that has a long history. It has received impetus from humanity’s quest for technological advancement and has advanced by the need to aid major engineering developments such as designing vertical transport systems for deep underground mining and for high-rise office and residential buildings. In this lecture Professor Kaczmarczyk will describe how the principles and methods of applied dynamics can be used to solve important engineering problems in the context of vertical transportation technologies. He will share his professional journey that took him from material handling problems in deep underground mines to elevator engineering projects in high-rise applications. The lecture will highlight dynamic phenomena such as transient and steady-state resonant vibrations in vertical transportation systems deployed in the modern built environment and underground mining applications as well as future research directions in this area of engineering.
