Description
A team of CSBP colleagues and the wider FRESHPPACT team recently visited Ghana to launch a policy report under the FRESHPPACT project in Ghana. The FRESHPPACT project is funded by the UK government through its UK International Development funding and Sustainable Manufacturing Environmental Pollution Program (SMEP). The work of the FRESHPPACT project is also supported by the United Nations Trade and Development (UNCTAD).The growing global awareness of the urgent need to address plastic pollution has driven countries across the world to reassess their reliance on single-use plastic products and seek sustainable alternatives. As a rapidly developing nation with ambitions to strengthen its economy while preserving its environment, Ghana is well-positioned to play a leading role in the transition towards plastic alternatives within the West African region.
This policy report was developed following the October 2024 round table event hosted by Freshppact, which questioned the main challenges for plastics reduction in Ghana. The Policy Blueprint, the first of its kind in the West African sub-region, provides a strategic framework for transitioning Ghana into a plastic alternatives-driven economy using sustainable materials. It will promote the commercialisation of plastic alternative products in the country.
