Networking Event - Project Vigilant and Sexual Offending

Activity: Organising a conference or workshopKnowledge Exchange

Description

The objective of this networking event on Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) and Project Vigilant, is to encourage the development of networks with the shared goal of addressing sexual violence in the night-time economy. We also hope it will enable national and international law enforcement agencies, policy makers, government and academics to engage in constructive discussions in a collegiate and cohesive manner to achieve that shared goal. Social impact is at the heart of this event and our university. A further aim of the event is to foster collaboration and cohesion across academia, industry, and government communities locally, nationally, and internationally. The event is demonstrative of our international commitment to the United Nations Sustainability Goals: SDG16 Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, and SDG17 Partnerships for Goals and our commitment to serve our local communities by them with opportunity to discuss and provide working solutions.

We hope that by providing a safe platform for industry and academia to come together, it will foster an increase in trust between the university, academics, practitioners, policymakers, and the communities. This will become even more important as the event will also launch the Independent Academic Advisory Group (IAAG) (Chaired by Dr Jordan Nunan from Criminal Justice in FBL). The purpose of the IAAG is to secure academic funding and undertake objective and rigorous peer-reviewed research on Project Vigilant. It may also offer evidence of Best Practice to take forward on a regional, national and international level.
