Virtual Justice – is a technologically enhanced criminal justice system capable of delivering ‘true’ justice for the accused?

Activity: Academic Talks or PresentationsConference PresentationResearch

    Description

The Covid-19 pandemic acted as a catalyst for the increased use of technology within the Criminal Justice System. Whilst the remote attendance of defendants at hearings is by no means a new phenomenon, it is arguable that, as a result of Covid-19, the extent to which a defendant’s journey through the process is touched by technology has increased. This conference paper attempts to consider technological advances in the context of criminal justice, particularly through the lens of those accused of criminal offences. Notably, the impact of the recent expansion of the use of video link technology in criminal hearings will be explored.
