Description
Feminist historians have long sought to highlight women’s place in history, particularly in a national context. However, local history as an approach is found to neglect women. Using the wives and daughters of the Boot and Shoe Manufacturers in Victorian and Edwardian Northampton, the paper will look at how women were involved in many philanthropy activities within organisations throughout the town such as Northampton General Hospital as well as other organisations that had a benefit to the welfare of the people of Northampton.
