The importance of staying connected during social isolation



Government guidance on social distancing and social isolation to help protect the health and safety of population mean that people have become isolated from friends and family which can lead to feelings of anxiety, stress and depression which are understandable at this time, and for vulnerable people, such concerns and uncertainty increase. The Lancet Report highlights the negative physiological effects of social isolation including confusion, anger, stress, frustration, boredom and stigma.Separation from loved ones can be terrifying during times of uncertainty and advice from the World Health Organisation, on protection mental health during coronavirus, offer several recommendations including staying connected with people. So, how can technology help us stay connected with people during period of social distancing and social isolation?
