Organisation profile

The Centre for Historical Studies at the University of Northampton is a hub for a wide range of approaches and methods of thinking about the past.

Members include the History team at the University as well as scholars from a wide range of subject areas including English, Education, Acting and Drama, Journalism and the Institute of Leather Technology, and external partners.

The centre aims to enrich the wider discipline of History by creating a productive environment for high quality research, publications and postgraduate study as well as scholarly networking, conferences, and events. We will contribute to public debates, including the defence of History as an important and timely academic subject.

Current areas of focus include:

  • Gender history
  • History of warfare
  • Medieval and early modern studies
  • History of emotions
  • Medical humanities
  • History of crime
  • Study of extreme right politics and culture
  • History of Education
  • History of sport and local history

External Partners
