Biography

Atish joined the University in Northampton in 2017 and is both a Lecturer in Environmental Science and the Laboratory Director of Environmental Science and Geography. He is an active researcher in aquatic biology and contributes to the Environmental Science, Geography and Biological Sciences degree programmes. He is curently an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Atish applies his expertise and research within the Soil, Sediment and Water Lab Group at the University of Northampton and has generated income through consultancy for organisations including Rothamsted Research, Environment Agency, National Trust and various local trusts.

Research Interests

Research interests include ecological responses to drying in rivers; macroinvertebrate use of subsurface refuges in response to drying; impact of fine sediment and water chemistry on aquatic ecology; weir removal; use of novel experimental lab and field techniques in river ecology; climate change resilience / governance.

Current projects

Evaluating the role of Himalayan Balsam in River Bank Degradation in the South Downs National Park (£9,961.20 grant awarded)

Evaluating the impact of erosion, sedimentation and weir removal in the Rother Valley (ongoing consultancy project)

Investigation into the impact of modern farming practices on sediment transport and pollution in rivers / lakes (£35,000 contract awarded for consultancy)
