Biography
Catherine is a Senior Lecturer in Educational Linguistics at the University of Northampton (UK). She started her career as an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teacher mostly in Greece, then in Spain and the UK. Her teaching experience includes children, young adults and professionals (Business English) at all levels. She has experience as an Academic Coordinator and Director of Studies at EFL and Business English institutions in Greece and the UK, which also involved leading Continuous Professional Development and teacher training programmes for these institutions. Catherine moved to the UK to continue her studies in Applied Linguistics and follow her passion for research in second language acquisition, teaching methodologies and innovative educational approaches. Since then, she has worked for over 15 years teaching English for Academic Purposes (EAP) at a number of UK Higher Education Institutions, and over 10 years of teaching core subjects at Master’s level (Applied Linguistics and TESOL) at Queen Mary University of London and at the University of Northampton. She is an HEA Fellow and has been actively involved in professional and academic organisations in her field.
Catherine is a strong advocate of Action Research both as a tool for ongoing professional development and as a research strategy and she has been a mentor for colleagues who wish to conduct more systematic action research and present their work at conferences. She is currently working towards her PhD on Communities of Practice (CoPs) as a pedagogy in Higher Education.
Research Interests
Catherine is currently involved in projects that explore collaborative pedagogies, critical and analytical thinking skills development, and the use of AI for language development in Higher Education settings.
