Biography

Dr Ecem Karlıdağ-Dennis is an Associate Professor at the Institute for Social Innovation and Impact. She completed her PhD at the University of Nottingham’s School of Education. Her research centres on the sociology of education, with a particular focus on educational inequalities, alongside co-design and participatory research approaches informed by critical pedagogy.
 
Ecem has experience working on a number of international projects and with organisations including the British Council and British Academy. Her work spans a range of Global South countries, including Vietnam and Turkey, and she is a member of the ASEAN Research Network.
 
Ecem serves as an Associate Editor for Critical Studies in Education, Children and Youth Services Review, and the Journal of Child and Family Studies. She is a member of the UKRI Talent Peer Review College and serves as an advisor to the Quality Management in Education Board within the Department of American Culture and Literature at Bilkent University, Ankara, Turkey. She is also a Trustee of the Coventry Refugee and Migrant Centre.
 
Since 2023, Ecem has represented Early Career Researchers on the Research, Impact and Innovation Committee at the University of Northampton and leads the ECR Network at the University. In 2024, she joined the Faculty of Health, Education and Society (FHS) Ethics Committee. She is also a member of the University of Northampton's Race Equality Chartership Committee and leads the evaluation of the University's Access and Participation Plan.
 
Since 2025, Ecem has been a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Psychology and Education at the National University of Education in Hanoi, Vietnam.
