Elisavet Kalpaxi is an artist, researcher, and a Lecturer in Photography (0.5) at the University.

She graduated from ATEI of Athens, Greece, in 1998 with a BA in Photography. In 2005 she completed a Master Course in Image and Communication at the department of Media and Communication, at Goldsmiths College, and in 2012 she was awarded a PhD in Fine Art from the department of Art at Goldsmiths. This practice-based PhD, titled ‘Narcissism and Narrativity in Photographic Self-portraiture’ was completed under the supervision of Prof. Nick de Ville and Dr John Chilver, and with the kind support of Ian Jeffrey.


Research Interests

Her discursive interests lie with practice-based and interdisciplinary research in art, self-portraiture, narrativity and photography’s contemporary criticality; also, with current discursive shifts in art history, theory and practice and changing narratives influenced by technological and socio-political/economic developments. She has also participated in UoN ILT-funded teaching and learning research projects.
