Biography

Gill joined the University of Northampton in 2011, she is currently the Programme Leader for the BA Primary Education (QTS) and a Governor of a DfE designated English Hub.

Gill studied for her first degree at the College of Ripon and York St John and was awarded a BEd (Hons) by Leeds University. She holds a Post Graduate Certificate for Teaching in Higher Education and a Masters in Education, both awarded by the University of Northampton.

Gill began her career in education teaching in a range of primary schools in Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire. From 2000-2011, Gill worked as a Learning and Curriculum Adviser, for Primary English, for Northamptonshire Local Authority. She held the role of Lead Adviser for English, designed and led CPD in schools and managed the Every Child a Writer initiative for Northamptonshire

Gill is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She is an English specialist, designs and teaches across a range of undergraduate modules and supervises dissertations.

Research Interests

Gill’s interests include phonics and reading and for her Masters in Education thesis explored teacher perceptions of the Phonics Screening Check. She is also a Level 2a Practitioner in Philosophy for Children (P4C).
