Biography
A journalist and media academic working for more than 30 years across a range of regional press and specialist media. Currently Senior Lecturer in Journalism at University of Northampton.
Former Deputy Subject Leader and Programme Leader. Also still a freelance journalist and media trainer. A fully trained design sub-editor, teaching a range of contemporary media skills using Adobe Creative Suite and experienced in online publishing, audio and video editing.
Formerly a weekly columnist for over ten years and involved in the launch of new regional media projects including magazines and websites. Academic supervision has been of practice-based journalism at undergradute level including writing skills, podcasting, law, magazine and newspaper projects, radio and work-based learning placements, along with academic dissertations.
An in-depth knowledge of social media and mobile reporting and a founding member of the BBC/Society of Editors' Local Journalism Working Party, which saw the launch of the BBC Local Democracy Reporters scheme. An Advance HE certified external examiner. Member of the Society of Editors. Host of Research Podcast and Women in the Arts radio show, NLive Radio Northampton.

Research Interests
Current research is looking at work experience for journalists, podcasting as a teaching and learning tool and the decline of regional newspapers. Interested in role of the media in holding public bodies to account and equality for all in media organisations, especially in areas of class and sex.
