Rashid Kamal is a Lecturer and Researcher, experienced in Artificial Intelligence, Human-Computer Interaction, Digital Health, and Generative AI. Over the course of more than a decade, Rashid has spearheaded transformative projects encompassing low-power embedded systems, advanced Generative AI models, pioneering Digital Health solutions, and intelligent IoT applications to enhance living environments.
His dedication to advancing technology and education is demonstrated through his significant contributions to academia and research. Rashid earned a PhD from Ulster University, where his research focused on using smartphones and wearable technology to predict optimal moments for delivering notifications, thereby minimising interruptions and enhancing user engagement. His approach integrates situational activity recognition with a comprehensive behavioural profile to ensure notifications are timely and contextually relevant.
Throughout his career, Rashid has secured notable funding and accolades, highlighting his expertise in research and innovation. These include UKRI England Innovation & Commercialisation Funding, consecutive Best Researcher Awards at Abasyn University, and an Early Career Research Funding for a project on advancing machine discernment of linguistic cues. He has also excelled as an educator, earning the Best Teacher Award at the same institution.
Rashid has played a crucial role in developing educational and industrial partnerships, leading to the creation of intelligent systems such as the Intelligent Inventory Management and Job Scheduling systems for GXO UK. His academic contributions are well-recognised, with numerous publications in prestigious journals and conferences on topics ranging from machine learning to behavioural data science.
