Description
Being satisfied with your sex life and sexuality is an important part of overall life satisfaction. Transgender and gender non-conforming people may experience intense discomfort with their body, which might make their sex life and sexuality challenging at times. Accessing gender-affirming medical care (such as hormones and genital surgery) can promote sexual satisfaction for transgender people, but we do not know much about the internal, psychological factors that might also help. Previous research suggests that negative ideas in society about being transgender, homophobia, and how confident people feel might also influence sexual satisfaction. However, no previous research studies have tested this. This study will explore what factors predict positive sexual satisfaction in transgender adults, so that we can then develop ways to intervene to ensure they feel satisfied with their body and lives. We will use an online survey to recruit transgender adults to explore this.
Layman's description
Sexual satisfaction is an important part of general life satisfaction. Transgender people may experience unique challenges regarding sexual satisfaction due to discomfort with their bodies and discrimination during dating and sexual relationships. The current study will explore what factors help sexual satisfaction for transgender people using an online survey.
