An investigation into BAME attainment, exploring the factors that impact on low grades of BAME students at the University of Northampton.

Project Details

Description

The BAME student population in the UK has changed radically in recent years, this is significantly pronounced at the University of Northampton (UoN).

UoN has a student population of 46.9% BAME UG FT students, compared to the sector figure of 31.2% This figure has increased year on year, faster than the overall sector. BAME final grades and employment prospects have not increased at the same rate. The gap between White and BAME leavers in graduate level work was over 20% in 2016.

This project will examine the barrier impacting Black student attainment, focussing on engagement with professional services teams but also potential barriers extending from the wider Northampton community.
