Assistance in Development of Rapid Automated Test to detect Bacteria

1.University of Northampton will source the strains of bacteria carrying the genes that cause antibiotic resistance from National Collections and will grow them in their laboratory. In the next stage they will use DNA extraction kits to extract and purify the DNA which will be provided to GFC Diagnostics. In addition they will check to see if the strain contains the gene by using a PCR method.

2. University of Northampton will test the assay developed on samples of bacteria containing the antibiotic resistance genes and compare the results to a PCR method.
