Exploring the transition of international students to UK Higher Education (HE) and how they develop their information literacy practice to adapt to the expectations on a taught masters programme.

Project Details

Description

The MSc Public Health programme recruits international students from varied backgrounds. With this fellowship I will have the unique opportunity to work with them to explore the knowledge they bring to their studies and build an understanding of their information literacy practice. I will use photovoice with the students to record their information literacy practice. Using focus groups we will develop the key themes and findings for dissemination in a photography exhibition and journal articles.

Layman's description

This research project looks at the experience of international postgraduate students coming to the University of Northampton to study on the MSc Public Health course.

To investigate their experience, I used a qualitative research method called participatory photography, or photovoice. This involved the student co-researchers taking photos of the tools, objects or things that represent how they feel coming to study in the UK and how they find information. They then took part in research interviews to discuss the photographs and their experiences.
