Description
The Autism Act (2009) was a landmark legislation requiring the government to develop an adult autism strategy identifying how autistic people should be supported. The act requires the government to keep the strategy under review, informed by evidence (Garratt & Abreu, 2023; Department of Health and Social Care, 2021). However, autistic stakeholders (e.g., autistic adults) reported funding patterns did not represent autistic priorities (Pellicano et al., 2014). Unsurprisingly, based on the lack of autistic-informed research (Roche et al., 2020), the 10 yearly review of the Autism Act reported 71% of autistic people still do not get the required support (All Parliamentary Group on Autism, 2019).
This proposed research aims to work with the Northamptonshire autistic community to:
1.Identify the research priorities of autistic adults in Northamptonshire;
2.Develop method for sharing information with autistic adults, families, practitioners;
3.Use the findings to inform the Northamptonshire and National Autism Strategy.

Layman's description
The Autism Act (2009) is an important law that made it necessary for the UK government to create a plan for how to help autistic people. The plan should be informed by evidence. However, autistic people have pointed out that research often doesn't focus on what they want or need. In fact, a decade after the law was passed, a big review found that more than two-thirds of autistic individuals still weren't getting the support that they need. Based upon the points above, our research aims to:
1. Identify the research priorities of autistic adults in Northamptonshire;
2. Develop a method for sharing information with autistic adults, families, practitioners;
3. Use the findings to inform the Northamptonshire and National Autism Strategy.
