Sustainable Prevention, Innovation and INvolvement NETwork (SPINNET): Vision & Approach

Project Details

Description

The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) and Alzheimer’s Society will invest up to £5.25 million in up to three Network Plus grants in dementia.

The funding will extend the existing UK dementia research community, through capacity building activity and bringing in researchers new to the dementia field. Grants will have a strongly collaborative ethos, embedding working with people living with dementia and carers across all activities. They will work across stakeholders in national and local government as well as charities. SPIINNET willWe will create a mutually responsive ecosystem which can strengthen understanding, involvement, and innovation in dementia prevention research to develop the quality of experience, effective knowledge and resources of people with dementia, families, communities, the NHS and social care. Our core values are inclusivity, respectful curiosity, and responsible, sustainable productivity. Dementia represents interactions between health conditions and endemic social factors - a syndemic condition1,2, acknowledging intersectionality in biological, psychological and social diversity. We aim to innovate in dementia prevention through behaviour change across three forms of prevention from the Care Act 20144 to prevent, reduce or delay care and support needs.
