Description
This research aims to understand core facilitators and barriers to successful uptake of shared decision making (SDM) in Community Mental Health Services for service users (SU) with Psychosis. National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE, 2021) implemented SDM guidelines for care and treatment for Psychosis, however research (Jivraj, Gault & Chambers 2023; Schladitz et al., 2023; Zisman-Illani, et al., 2021) indicate inconsistent uptake of this practice. Through co-designed research, using qualitative focus groups carried out by persons with lived experience, we wish to learn more about why SUs have/haven’t engaged in SDM. The participants we wish to recruit to this research include experts by experience from selected SU advisory groups. It is intended the findings of this pilot research will inform future study of a SDM intervention for community mental health to improve uptake in practice. This research is important for SDM impact in mental health services and SU recovery outcomes.
