Abstract

Hospitalised children predate 19th-century specialist children’s hospitals. Before Lister and anaesthesia, surgery was generally of short duration. In the 18th century, paediatric surgery was extremely limited. It was 1860 before the first English textbook on paediatric surgery was published. This short paper relates two cases of paediatric orthopaedic surgery undertaken at the Northampton Infirmary in the 18th century.
