A curriculum that promotes equality and challenges racism and sexism

Research output: Contribution to Book/ReportChapterpeer-review

Abstract

This chapter will demonstrate why equality in our work is not optional; it is the right of every child and enshrined in law. The discussion will illustrate how different areas of inequality are connected and that a holistic approach in practice is important. The language of equality will be discussed, and you will be supported to examine and reflect on your own beliefs, including how unconscious bias can impact on your work with children and how you respond to others. You will be introduced to the MANDELA Model (Lumsden, 2024 ), a strengths approach framework that supports those working in the early years to have different conversations between each other, with children, families and their local community. Conversations that will lead to real and sustainable change in practice.
