Abstract
In a preliminary study, principal component analysis and a two-stage clustering technique is applied to climatological data in order to derive meteorologically homogeneous air mass data for winters in Northampton, UK. Twelve types result. The method should prove successful in providing a synoptic framework for the analysis of climate change and climate-related environmental variables.
