Abstract
Exhibition showcasing the work of 61 international illustrators and graphic artists.
Press description: 'Visual Taipei- A visual arts show between design and arts, illustration and digital, non-commercial and multidisciplinary.'
I was invited to contribute a selection of fashion illustrations I had made for Anothermag.com and work from a collaboration with Marc by Marc Jacobs for their 2015 resort collection. The images were drawn with chalk pastel on paper or ink on paper and the materials and technique were considered unusual and of interest in Taiwan.
Curator interview:
'How did you go about selecting the featured artists, designers and illustrators?'
'When it came to the selection process, there were a number of considerations: the depth of the artist’s professional experience, their international prestige, how much their works reflected contemporary values, the experimental nature, originality, and narrative of the works, and whether a strong personal style was evident. In order to avoid styles that were too similar, I tried to choose works that were rarely seen in Taiwan, as well as outstanding interdisciplinary pieces...we hope that through this exhibition people will have a broader appreciation of the contemporary visual art field, and be more imaginative and receptive towards those difficult-to-categorise creative works that belong in the middle ground (between design and art).'
