Abstract
Seraj and Legget (2023) defines a personal academic tutor as a member of academic staff who provides academic guidance and pastoral support for students. The roles PAT’s take on vary in form with academic staff offering support to students pastorally, academically whilst also directing students to relevant institutional services (Blythman and Orr, 2003).
Recent studies (Ghenghesh 2018) have indicated a student's lack of awareness of the PAT role. Lack of contact time between individuals, “buy in” and the overall qualities of the tutors being a reason for lack of support for students.
This study hopes to build upon the current perceptions of a PAT’s role from students in hope of creating a working model which targets the support students need to be successful in higher education environment
