Abstract
This presentation will examine the current agenda for change in special education as it applies across a range of national settings. It will do so by considering lessons from history and by reflecting on examples of what has been viewed as 'effective practice' in more recent times. A coda will highlight the contemporary challenges facing those involved in supporting children and young people with learning difficulties in forging new approaches to their learning.
