Abstract
During childhood the knee has been described to undergo a swing in the frontal plane from varus to valgus and then back towards neutral. The contention of a number of workers is that these frontal plane alterations are normal physiological changes and that when the child begins to stand this pendulum mechanism is needed to equalize physeal growth about the knee. This article examines the literature on the subject of physiological genu valgum and genu varum in children.
