Keeping Children Safe in a Changing World

    Research output: Contribution to Book/ReportChapter

    Abstract

In today’s rapidly evolving world, the challenges and threats to safeguarding children from harm are more complex and multifaceted than ever before. In addition to the ongoing issues of child abuse, trauma and adverse experiences, children’s safety is further compromised by digital technology, shifting social norms, economic fluctuations, and environmental changes. Furthermore, the impact of social disadvantage on children cannot be ignored. This chapter explores the importance of a holistic approach to keeping children safe in a changing world. Three key themes will be explored, providing a framework for understanding the challenges and approaches to promote change. Firstly, there is a focus on the complex factors that impede keeping young children safe. Despite legislation, policy, professional training and family support, child abuse is still a major issue nationally and globally. The discussion will then explore intervention and support for families and the vital importance of a highly trained workforce that can work collaboratively to create lasting change.
