Abstract

Slogan scarves produced by visitors to Sirius and displayed in the exhibition Talk to the Land, in response to PSC (and Freee's) slogan scarves, titled 'Postlandlordism' (2017) at MIMA, and 'After Thompson: The Distribution of Wealth Most Conducive to Human Happiness—Make All Capitalists Labourers', at Coventry Biennial (2019)

Showcasing a statement on a scarf or T-shirt is what Partisan Social Club calls the “bodily endorsement of a slogan.” The wearing of clothing is an embodied action that, while an individual goes about their daily routine, reflects the entangled relationship between the statement’s political positioning and the person’s lived experience. Partisan Social Club, by proposing to “make all capitalists labourers,” follows the movements that have critiqued capitalism, part of the theoretical and political traditions in which William Thompson was an early protagonist.
