Abstract
The chapter introduces the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health for Children and Youth in the context of its use by professionals in early childhood intervention in support in family settings. It introduces its categories, areas, structure, conditions for numeric qualifiers. It emphasizes its use in assessment of family environment on the level of play, independence, linked to abilities and opportunities for participation. Descriptive language of the classification helps to focus on the strengths of families in difficult life situations, to identify resources for copying and examples of effective functioning. In this way, professionals can support the competences of parents to raise their children and demonstrate their progress in relation to other factors that influence children.
