The Social Construction of Vulnerable Families in Children's Centres

Research output: Contribution to ConferencePosterpeer-review

Abstract

The term vulnerable families is now in common use in a range of public services in England yet there is no clear definition of what makes a family vulnerable or what a vulnerable family looks like. This research aims to explore how Children’s Centre workers understand and define vulnerable families. Twelve Children’s Centre workers from eight different Centres were interviewed about what they thought made a family vulnerable and analysed using Critical Discourse Analysis. The next steps for the study are to; complete transcribing the interviews, analyse the interview data, confirm the analysis with the participants and write up the thesis.
