Abstract

Otitis media is middle ear inflammation which affects most children by the time they are 3 years old (Venekamp et al, 2013). It is a broad term that comprises three subtypes: Acute otitis media; Otitis media with effusion; Chronic suppurative otitis media. This article will provide an overview of otitis media, with a specific focus on acute otitis media as this condition is most commonly seen in children within primary care (Warren, 2008).
