    Abstract

Otto Press invited me to create new work for a 112 page risograph printed comics anthology structured around the chapter durations of the film 'Cleo from 5 to 7' written and directed by Agnes Varda (1962).

My contribution, an 8 page, 2 colour sequence took Yellow Submarine, a short story written by Anna Kavan (from the collection My Soul In China, published in 1975) as a starting point. Intrigued by the juxtaposition of war, bombs and explosions with details of 1960s fashion and cosmetics as well as the theme of duplicity in Yellow Submarine, my story explores and heightens these elements visually and then takes some characters from that story out into the woods for a game of hide and seek. It finishes with an open questioning of motives and allegiances.

I explored a new approach to scattered and layered page designs and used the teal colour I was assigned to add visual noise to the spreads.
