Abstract
This interim report presents the preliminary results of the evaluation of the YMCA in Milton Keynes (YMCA-MK) programme, delivered from March 2020 until January 2022. The new YMCA-MK building provides an opportunity to build a new culture and an assets-based approach to helping people who are homeless as part of the Under One Roof (U1R) project. This project is significant, with a growing number of young people experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity in the Milton Keynes. To evaluate the programme a mixed-method approach, aligned to the University of Northampton’s ‘Social Impact Matrix©’, was implemented. This mixed-method approach overcomes the shortcomings of pure qualitative or quantitative designs alone by combining these two methodological approaches to offer added value (Roer-Strier and Kurman, 2009). Moreover, by implementing this approach, the research investigated both the effect of secure housing on individuals’ well-being and the wider social impact of the project on individuals and society.
