Overview:
In this session, participants will delve into the multifaceted challenges encountered by Black students in higher education, gaining a deeper understanding of the complexities surrounding equity, inclusion, and intersectionality. Through interactive discussions and insightful presentations, attendees will explore the following key points:
1. Awareness of Challenges: Participants will gain insight into the unique challenges faced by Black students within the academic landscape, including barriers to access, systemic inequalities, and cultural biases.
2. Importance of Equity and Inclusion: The session will underscore the critical importance of fostering environments that promote equity and inclusion for all students, with a specific focus on addressing disparities faced by Black individuals.
3. Impact of Intersectionality: Attendees will examine the concept of intersectionality and its profound influence on the experiences of Black students, recognising how factors such as race, gender, and socio-economic background intersect to shape their educational journey.
