Activity: Academic Talks or PresentationsConference Presentation

Description

This presentation explores different dimensions of science capital in primary school children. Children in Years 4 to 6 in the West Midlands and Oxfordshire (N=620) completed a survey on their science capital and how they conceptualise science. They also chose whether they would like to get into STEM-related careers and the reasons behind their choice.
The developmental trends and gender differences were observed in some of the science capital dimensions. It was also noted children's STEM affinity varied across schools. More children did not want to get into STEM-related careers in the future.
We will discuss the implications of the findings fully in the talk.
