Description
This 60-minute workshop provides a welcoming space for conference attendees to socialise and network around the topic of social media and wellbeing. Similar to the monthly #CyberSectionChat held on Twitter from the @BPSCyberPsych account, the workshop will propose a number of questions surrounding the topic and invite attendees to collectivelydiscuss. It is hoped that attendees will share their knowledge and ideas to facilitate group learning and generate potential research collaborations. Within the discussion we hope to touch on what research has told us about social media and wellbeing so far, and what research should prioritise over the next 5 years. We’ll be exploring both positive and negative consequences of social media use, and discussing the most pertinent topics for different age groups and populations. We’ll also consider innovative research methods and share tips for best practice when researching within this area. The workshop will be very informal and no specialist knowledge is necessary; though, equally, experts of the topic will
be very welcomed. All learning will be group generated, providing researchers and practitioners an opportunity to consider the implications of research findings from different perspectives. Attendees just need to bring along a curious mind, an appetite for learning, and enthusiasm for the topic.
