Description

Who gets to talk about gender?
Doing reflexivity is widely discussed in broad theoretical terms in relation to qualitative research but how to operationalise it less so. Influenced by the work of Smith (2011) I identify three authoethnographic “gems” from my reflexive diary and discuss them in parallel with a growing awareness of the influence of a third hermeneutic level in my IPA study into the experiences of men who work as midwives. In dialogue with theoretical literature I try to understand whether men can ever have epistemic authority with midwifery.
