Abstract
JumpThink run the ‘Leadership and Innovation’ development course for East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU) with the aim being to develop them as leaders and improve their strategic/innovative thinking. The wider project is being funded by the Home Office as a pilot for training Regional Organised Crime Units, who need to be more agile/innovative in their thinking to tackle the same qualities in organised crime. The course was open to 20 people (15 people ultimately engaged) and commenced in November 2022. It involves an away day and weekly online sessions for three hours in a group format, with catchup sessions and materials available, as well as one-to-one coaching/meetings when people want to check-in.
The programme is led in a developmental style that flexes to the needs of the participants within a group coaching session. It’s not a lecture, more a guided journey and feedback so far has been very good. The course compiles developmental psychology, entrepreneurship and business skills, learnings from high performance environments mixed with traditional coaching, group coaching and organisational development consultancy.
This report presents the final independent evaluation of the JumpThink ‘Leadership and Innovation’ development course. This research was delivered by the University of Northampton’s Institute for Social Innovation and Impact (ISII), focusing on participants opinions and perspectives on the course and how it has supported them in developing as leaders and strategic/innovative thinkers. It includes results from seven semi-structured interviews with Senior Police Officers.
