Abstract
The East of England NHS Health and Justice Commissioning Team were seeking an understanding of how professionals and service users perceive current service delivery for older prisoners to inform their commissioning of health services and to share with other stakeholders to stimulate discussion about how to work together to ensure that older prisoners are able to live in prison with support. Therefore, they commissioned review of care provided to this group in 6 of the region’s prisons as well as a comparator prison in another region. Findings are based on the results of 176 surveys with residents in the regional prisons, 30 interviews with residents, 13 interviews with healthcare staff and 15 with prison staff. Key findings of the full report are explored in this report summary.
