Bringing Learning Alive: empowering the use of immersive technologies to blend physical and digital spaces

Activity: Academic Talks or PresentationsInvited talkResearch

Description

This talk invites delegates to embed immersive technologies such as augmented and virtual reality in their teaching and learning through a knowledge exchange approach. Such technologies can be perceived to be inaccessible and time-consuming to use. The archaeological heritage site Chester House Estate is an example of an authentic and inclusive context with a range of stakeholders and end users. A cross-disciplinary team of university staff works with students from education and games design. With input from the University of Leicester archaeology team at Chester House and the Creative Tomorrow Trust, they develop a set of immersive resources designed to improve the knowledge and experiences of visitors and students at Chester House. They share new and accessible ways of learning, addressing the need to improve heritage education in Northamptonshire and develop learning experiences. A team of students and staff have co-created a range of interactive digital resources to demonstrate how they can enrich visitor experiences and increase accessibility by combining virtual and physical experiences.
